WooCommerce online shop Bydgoszcz: a guide for businesses

Przykładowy sklep internetowy WooCommerce w Bydgoszczy

Planning a WooCommerce online shop in Bydgoszcz, or rebuilding a shop that has stopped keeping up with your business? In short: WooCommerce is a good choice when you need full control over the shop, integrations with Polish payment gateways, couriers and accounting, and custom solutions that cannot be squeezed into a subscription plan. It works less well where what matters is launching in a single day with no technical support. Below we describe how to approach such a project from the business, technical and legal side.

We write from the perspective of an agency that builds WooCommerce shops for companies from Bydgoszcz, Łabiszyn and all over Poland. We do not quote prices, because they depend on scope. You will get a list of decisions to make before launch, a payment and delivery table, and a checklist.

WooCommerce or a ready-made SaaS: when to choose which

WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin that turns a website into a shop. The shop runs on your hosting, and the code and data belong to you. SaaS platforms (a subscription, with hosting handled by the provider) give you a faster start but limit what you can change.

When we choose WooCommerce

  • you sell an unusual product: personalised, with add-on options, digital, bookable or subscription-based;
  • you need integration with your own system (warehouse, CRM, ERP, wholesaler);
  • you want content and SEO in one place: a blog, guides and the shop on a single domain;
  • you do not want to pay a growing subscription or commissions, and you want to own the code.

When SaaS is the better option

  • you have a small, simple catalogue and want to start selling immediately;
  • nobody in the company wants to deal with updates, backups and security, and you have no technical support person.

If it turns out after a conversation that a ready-made platform will serve you better, we will tell you so.

What a well-built shop consists of

Category structure and navigation

Categories should reflect how customers search, not how the company organises its warehouse. Two levels are usually enough. In the graphic template shop for Twoja Grafika, a thematic split lets people quickly find the right materials.

Product page

A good product page has clear photos, the price, availability, clear information about delivery costs and times, a description that answers typical questions, and a visible buy button. For products with options, for example a choice of packaging with a surcharge, the total should recalculate instantly. This is how we built ordering in the bakery shop described in the Rynkowa Bistro case study.

Payments and delivery: a decision table

Customers most often abandon their basket when their preferred payment method is missing or the shipping cost appears only at the end. Here are the solutions we implement.

Area Solution When it makes sense
Payments Przelewy24 Polish market, fast bank transfers and BLIK in one gateway
Payments Stripe cards, international sales, digital products, subscriptions
Payments BLIK mobile purchases, customers wary of entering card details
Payments Apple Pay / Google Pay one-touch payment, especially on mobile devices
Delivery InPost (parcel lockers and courier) most shops with standard parcels
Delivery DPD courier shipments, including to businesses
Delivery DHL domestic and international shipments
Delivery UPS international shipping and larger orders
Accounting Fakturownia, wFirma automatic invoices after an order is paid

The availability of individual methods depends on your contract with the provider and your company profile, so we choose them after a conversation about who your customers are. A shop selling digital products does not need a courier: in the case study for Twoja Grafika, payments are handled by Stripe and the purchase is made available to the customer once it is paid.

Accounting and Allegro: automation instead of retyping

Issuing invoices by hand and retyping orders is the first thing that starts to hurt as a shop grows. Integration with Fakturownia or wFirma issues the document once the order is paid and sends it to the customer, so your accountant receives the data without a paper folder.

If you also sell on Allegro, we connect the listings and stock levels so that the same product is not sold twice. Such connections often require a small custom plugin; read more in the article on custom WordPress plugins.

Multilingual shops and selling outside Poland

Multilingual means more than translating descriptions: you have to translate categories, attributes, emails, terms and conditions and URLs, and set up currencies, taxes and delivery for other countries. It is better to plan this from the start than to bolt it on at the end. For SEO, each language version should have its own URLs and hreflang tags.

An example from our projects is the AutCode website, fully in English, built on WordPress and WooCommerce for customers outside Poland.

Terms and conditions, GDPR (RODO) and consumer law in outline

This is not legal advice, just a list of areas to take care of. It is worth having the documents reviewed by a lawyer who knows e-commerce.

  • Shop terms and conditions with information on concluding the contract, payments, delivery and complaints.
  • Right of withdrawal and a sample form for consumers; digital and personalised products have their own separate rules.
  • Privacy policy and information obligations towards customers in line with GDPR.
  • Cookies: the consent banner should block analytics and marketing scripts until consent is given.
  • Prices and costs presented so that the customer knows the full amount before placing the order.

You can also run a first check of your site with the free GDPR and cookies test, which points out obvious gaps in the banner, policy and trackers.

SEO for an online shop

Optimising a shop is a process that takes months, and no sensible person will promise a specific ranking, but solid foundations make sure the effort does not go to waste.

Category and product descriptions

Categories are usually the best landing pages for general phrases, and products for specific ones. Each category should have its own description: a short intro above the product list and a longer text below it, written for people. Manufacturer descriptions copied across many shops will not set you apart, so we write our own.

Product structured data

Schema.org Product markup (name, price, availability, reviews if you actually collect them) helps the search engine understand your offer and can enable price display in results. WooCommerce generates a basic version; check it against Google’s search documentation and in testing tools, as plugins often override or duplicate it.

Duplicates, filters and variants

Filters and sorting can generate thousands of URLs with the same content. You have to decide which combinations should be indexed and which should not, set canonical URLs, and make sure product variants do not create separate, nearly identical pages. The basket, checkout and customer account should not end up in the index or the sitemap.

The local aspect, if you also sell in person or offer in-store pickup in Bydgoszcz, is covered in our text on local SEO for a business in Bydgoszcz.

Speed, hosting and security

A shop is heavier than an ordinary website: the basket, checkout and customer account cannot be fully cached. That is why hosting with adequate resources, current PHP, object cache, image compression and few plugins matter more here. For Google, the Core Web Vitals thresholds count: LCP up to 2.5 s, INP up to 200 ms and CLS up to 0.1, described on web.dev. You will find optimisation details in our guide to WordPress site speed.

Security covers customer data and the continuity of sales. The basics are HTTPS, updates of WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins, strong passwords with two-factor authentication, backups tested by restoring them, and monitoring. Card data is handled by the payment gateway, not your server. More in the article on WordPress security and in the free WordPress security test.

E-commerce analytics in GA4

Google Analytics 4 with e-commerce events shows where customers drop off: product view, basket, checkout, purchase. We connect it with Google Tag Manager and Search Console, in line with cookie consent, so that you base decisions on data rather than gut feeling.

What determines the cost of a shop

The honest answer to the question about price is: it depends. On what:

  • the number of products, variants and categories, and how they are imported;
  • the graphic design: a customised template or a theme from scratch;
  • the number of integrations: payments, couriers, accounting, Allegro, warehouse;
  • special features: personalisation, bookings, subscriptions, wholesale prices;
  • language versions and currencies;
  • content and photo preparation, hosting and maintenance.

With us the quote is fixed-price and is prepared after a free conversation. You can check indicative ranges in the online calculator. When the scope changes, we agree an addendum.

What shop implementation and maintenance look like

  1. Conversation and scope. We establish what you sell and to whom, and which integrations are necessary from the start.
  2. Design. Category structure, product page layout, basket and checkout flow.
  3. Build on staging. Every week you see progress and give feedback before anything goes live.
  4. Testing. Full test orders: payment, invoice, emails, delivery, mobile devices.
  5. Launch. Moving to production after your approval, setting up measurement and Search Console.
  6. Maintenance. The first month of support is included in the price; after that, a service agreement or an “it works, we don’t touch it” model is possible.

The code stays with you, so you can change contractor. We work remotely with clients from all over Poland, and we hold meetings at our office in the centre of Bydgoszcz by prior arrangement, when both sides see the point.

Checklist: “Before the shop launches”

  • product categories and attributes are organised, and every category has a description;
  • all products have their own descriptions, photos, prices and stock levels;
  • a full order has been tested with every payment and delivery method;
  • invoices and transactional emails are generated correctly;
  • the terms and conditions, privacy policy and returns information have been checked by a lawyer;
  • the cookie banner blocks scripts until consent is given;
  • the basket, checkout and customer account are excluded from the index and sitemap;
  • Product structured data passes the test, and canonical URLs are set;
  • GA4 records e-commerce events, and Search Console is connected;
  • the shop runs fast on mobile, backups are tested, and accounts have 2FA;

Frequently asked questions

How much does a WooCommerce shop cost?

The price depends on the number of products, the graphic design, integrations and special features, so we cannot give it without knowing the scope. With us the quote is fixed-price and is prepared after a free conversation. You can check indicative ranges in the calculator on our website.

Is WooCommerce suitable for a small shop?

Yes, if you care about owning the shop and being able to expand it. With a very simple offer and no technical support person, SaaS may be more convenient.

How long does it take to build a WordPress online shop?

The time depends on the scope: the number of products, integrations, and delivery of content and photos. We set the schedule in the quote; delays most often result from missing materials on the client’s side.

Can you connect the shop with Allegro, Fakturownia and couriers?

Yes. We implement payments, couriers (InPost, DPD, DHL, UPS), accounting (Fakturownia, wFirma) and synchronisation with Allegro. We agree the scope at the start of the project.

Who looks after the shop after launch?

The first month of support after launch is included in the price and covers updates, minor changes and monitoring. After that you can choose a service agreement or call on us ad hoc.
